Implementing EIGRP/OSPF &BGP Network Protocol

Companies are looking for their service to be more fast, reliable and secure. As a result, the need for network technology increased. Industries are started to invest more in a networking system. Data and file sharing become an essential part of any institute. Small to large size organizations are now focusing on implementing a sophisticated network to meet business demand.

As the scalability of the network increase, the service demand also increases, this leads to lots of traffic to be generated. Even if technology helps in administering this traffics nonetheless, for the network to deliver the required performance, it is very important to reduce network downtime for large as well as medium businesses. Network downtime and security are the biggest challenges for any modern business. Only using the best technology will not be the guarantee for complete avoidance of network downtime and securing it. If it is not properly maintained and secured, the effect will be unmaintainable, including loss of profit and productivity in today’s market.

Throughout this project, the aim of the project, the requirement, the project overview will be explained. EIGRP Routing protocols were researched and analyzed in depth. The information acquired was used to plan, design and implement EIGRP Network for a company based in uk, and the process is explained in short with sample view below.

Network Development Life Cycle

The network development life cycle starts from analysis, in the analysis process the organizational and the plane for the new or enhanced networking system will be analyzed. The network performance will be evaluated. The network traffic that comes into the organization and out from the organization will be analyzed. This step helps the system to be implemented in the way the company can manage and maintain it as needed. The next step of NDLC is the design part. This includes designing the logical topology, network layers and switches, and routers. The next step is implementation this is a process of implementing according to the design and specifications that are already identified. Monitoring is the next step, after implementing the network the next step is the operational process, this includes the effectiveness of the implemented network infrastructure. The final stage of NDLC is Management and this includes identifies and solve any kind of problem found before any network interruption. The network development life cycle will be summarised in the diagram.

EIGRP Network Configuration

The first process in EIGRP is started by selecting a primary successor from the network and then selecting a feasible Successor follows, finally the process will be completed after inserting the primary successor and the feasible successor into the topology table.

The second process will start by moving the primary (successor) routes to the routing table. after a router form a new adjacency, query and update process will follow to get information and this information will be inserted in the topology table.

The final process includes updating the topology table. This process triggered when connected routers or interfaces changed or when the adjacency router informs a change in the network. Active state and passive sate help to enter through the network to a specific destination. These two states are separated based on the recomputation process. Recomputation procedure happens when no feasible successors available. The recomputation method is only active in an Active state and not in a passive state.

Inconclusion, for the the company, two network requirement specifications have been generated, Designed and implemented. The first implementation is EIGRP/OSPF and the second one is OSPF/BGP. As the organisation grows rely heavily on the internet for the advertisement and sales purpose, the network implementation was established by considering the primary and backup route to the internet. And this accomplished by implementing OSPF and BGP advanced routing protocols. Finally, all the implemented network has been configured according to the requirement and verified effectively. The organisation network is now fully operational and functioning according to the guidelines.
